A parent thot is a thot directly above another thot or thot reference within the same host note.

Hint

When inserting a parent thot using or a keyboard shortcut, the active thot's metadata lifts into the newly inserted parent thot.

To push the metadata back down to the previously active thot, just attempt inserting a parent thot again while the newly inserted parent thot's text content is still empty.
