Blank Thot
A blank thot is a thot with no text content.
Even though a blank thot has no text content, it may still have thot metadata items.
Pruning
If a blank thot loses focus it is automatically pruned. If said blank thot has metadata, a prompt appears warning the user that metadata will be discarded and gives the user a chance to cancel the pruning.
When thot selection selecting mode is toggled on, the active thot deactivates, which can initiate pruning the active thot if it is a blank thot.
Persisted blank thots
Blank thots may persist in a host note when a user navigates away from the editor while a blank thot is active.
When this happens the user's momentum is prioritized: no automatic pruning occurs and no warning prompts are shown; the host note is left exactly as is. The blank thot is tracked quietly, allowing the user to return later to exactly where they left off. When inspiration strikes, no closure, cleanup, or decisions mid-flow are forced on the user.
Since having blank thots persist skews the app's analytics slightly, warnings regarding blank thots are shown on the analytics screen.
Additionally, blank thots can be specifically searched for using the app's search functionality.
